Charlestown Honors Armed Forces Banner Program
The City of Charlestown’s new Charlestown Honors banner program will recognize active duty and veteran service men and women with recognition banners lining Market Street through Charlestown beginning in September, and running through Nov. 15. Charlestown Honors banners are full-color, double sided heavy duty vinyl and measure 48” long by 18” wide.
Banners may be sponsored by individuals or businesses at a cost of $65 per banner, and all proceeds raised through the program will benefit future Charlestown Beautification efforts. The cost includes the banner and installation. The city covers the cost of the bracketing and hardware.
If you have a banner from a previous year and you would like to hang it again, there is a $20 rehanging fee. Please bring the banner to City Hall.
Funds from the program go toward purchasing new American flags to be displayed in the city during patriotic holidays.
Orders are due by August 16, and may be placed online, in person at City Hall, or by mail.
Applicant honorees must be active duty, retired or honorably discharged members of the United States Armed Forces. All applicants are subject to service verification upon request. Preference will be given to applicants living in or with ties to Charlestown, or immediate family members of residents.
An official military portrait of the honoree is suggested. If such a military image is not available, an image of the honoree void of other people or objects can be provided. Photos can be high resolution digital images, or bring a 5x7 print or larger to City Hall to be scanned at City Hall. Digital images can be submitted on the online form or via email to Parks@CityofCharlestown.com.
Online applications are preferred. Paper forms are available at Charlestown City Hall, Charlestown Trustees Office, VFW Post 1427, and American Legion Post 335. Forms may be returned by email, in person, or by mail to:

Disclaimer & Limitations
Banners will remain in place until Nov. 15. Upon removal, the banners will be made available for pickup by the honoree or honoree’s family. You may opt to save your banner to be hung again the following year in exchange for a donation, should the program continue - but please note that there may be some color fading or other wear due to the sun and weather. Specific banner locations will be determined by the city and, unfortunately, cannot be requested due to logistics and time constraints. Locations with poor visibility (tree coverage, etc) will be avoided to ensure each banner is visible.
The City of Charlestown is not responsible for replacing banners that are stolen, damaged, or destroyed due to age, vandalism, or any acts of nature, including high winds. Any loss or damage to an installed banner will be handled on a case by case basis. Banners do fall from time to time, but this is a rare occurrence and our crews check them each day – losses of this nature are very rare. By submitting your photo, you agree to your honorees image, name, and related service information being shared publicly on the banner as well as online in the city’s recognition efforts.
