Trail and Treat returns to Greenway Park on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023 for a one-of-a-kind Halloween experience in Charlestown. The City of Charlestown has partnered with Indiana University Southeast's Fine Arts class to present an Alice in Wonderland-themed Trail and Treat through scenic Greenway Park! Talented artists have brought the characters and scenes from the Disney film to life-size pieces of art! The Trail and Treat takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Greenway Park. A Movie in the Park, "Alice in Wonderland," will show at 7 p.m. as well.

Join the trail at any spot in the park and walk the trail to visit the many booths. The perfect parking spot is at Jonathan Jennings Elementary School and take the path down to Greenway Park! Concessions will be open.

Community members, businesses, non-profits, and churches can help pass out candy at the event by setting up tables throughout the trail to distribute treats. Volunteers and vendors can register early by filling out an online form, or reach out to Parks Director Marissa Knoebel at 812-256-3422 or to reserve a spot. If you'd like to donate candy, drop off contributions at City Hall during regular business hours.

Concessions will be open along with food trucks – Spud Bank, Cafe Lomez and Big Nita's Cheesecakes.

The event is sponsored by Progressive Materials, Charlestown Housing Authority, Dan Cristiani Excavating Co.

The classic Disney film "Alice in Wonderland" is a tale of young Alice chasing the White Rabbit into a "curiouser" fantastical world where she meets iconic characters including the Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts, March Hare, and more.

The 1951 film will be shown on a big screen in Greenway Park after trick or treating on Oct. 27 for a Movie in the Park at 7 p.m.

The film, based on Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland book, is rated G.

In the theme of Alice in Wonderland, a Very Merry Halloween Tea Party will take place in Greenway Park during Trail and Treat on Oct. 27. The first 200 guests will be served tea/lemonade and a cookie courtesy of Charlestown Coffee and Cream and Subway.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet with iconic characters from the movie including Alice, the Mad Hatter, and the Queen of Hearts. The meet and greet takes place from 5-7 p.m.

The City of Charlestown advises traditional trick or treating should take place on Oct. 31 between the hours of 6-9 pm. Please use the cautions provided by the CDC in regards to trick or treating.
