2024 CHRISTMAS CENTRAL INFORMATION STATION

Welcome to Charlestown: Christmas City!

LIGHT UP CHARLESTOWN, NOV. 29, 2024

To kick off the holidays, Light Up Charlestown takes place Friday, Nov. 29, 2024 at Greenway Park, starting at 5 p.m. Gather for sounds of holiday music, food trucks and the flipping of the light switch at 6 p.m. From that moment forward, the City of Charlestown will glow with lights at Greenway Park, the City Square and the Family Activities Park.

Doug Coyne Pavilion at Greenway Park is the spot for the entertainment!

Performance Schedule:
Drake Dance Academy – 5:00-5:15
Pleasant Ridge Elementary Choir – 5:15-5:30
Charlestown Middle School Choir – 5:40-5:55
Melissa Stewart, honorary light switcher – 6:00

Food trucks at Light Up Charlestown will be Mar Concessions, Dock Seafood, Donut NV, along with Greenway Park concessions.

 

GREENWAY PARK

 

The City’s central park will glow with Hallmark-card worthy lights, including from the 55-foot tree. Visitors can enjoy a stroll through the paved park.

 

The Greenway Park concession stand will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from Nov. 29-Dec. 21 from 6-10 p.m. and during the live reindeer event.

LIVE REINDEER at Greenway Park on Monday, Dec. 23 from 6-10 p.m.

 

FAMILY ACTIVITIES PARK

 

The Winter Holiday Market returns featuring vendors selling holiday décor, gift items, hand-made crafts and more. The Family Activities Park will be open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 6 to 10 p.m. from Nov. 29 through Dec. 21.

 

Rides on The Charlestown Express return along with an opportunity to play mini-golf in a festive environment. Train rides are $8 per person, ages 2 and up while a round of mini-golf is $5 per person. Tickets are sold on site at the admission window. In addition to Wednesdays through Saturdays, train rides will be offered on Dec. 23 from 6-10 p.m.

Kids’ activities are hosted by the Charlestown Parks Dept. in the party rooms. The concession stand will be open, selling snacks, including your seasonal favorite hot chocolate!

Be sure to browse the community designed Adopt-A-Lot area located near the train station and vote for your favorite online!

 

CITY SQUARE

 

The animated lights show at the Charlestown City Square takes place nightly from Nov. 29 until Jan. 1 from 6 to 10 p.m. The 20-minute show plays on a loop with a short break between the end and the start.

Tune in to 87.9 FM to hear the music synced to the light show!

CHARLESTOWN PAINTS! – Elf Christmas Painting

SUNDAY, NOV. 17 from 3-5 p.m. at the Arts & Enrichment Center

Join us for a community painting party led by Red Headed Princess Designs. Great for families, groups, and individuals. Cost is $20 per person and includes the art to take home.

"SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT" CHRISTMAS MYSTERY DINNER PARTY

SATURDAY, NOV. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Arts & Enrichment Center

Can you figure out who did it? Be prepared to interact with the cast of Murder and Merriment during a fun dinner and holiday-themed show! Tickets are $30 each or Table of 6 is $160.

HOLIDAY MUSIC SHOWCASE

SATURDAY, NOV. 30 from 6-8 p.m. at the Arts & Enrichment Center

Music artists from Charlestown and the region gather to sing and perform holiday sounds. This event is free. Concessions will be open, offering hot chocolate, cookies, and more. Ensembles is partnering with the city to put on the event.

JINGLE BELL 1K RUN/WALK

SATURDAY, DEC. 7 from 5 p.m. at Greenway Park

Dress in your favorite holiday pajamas, ugliest sweater, or costume for a family-friendly Jingle Bell 1K stroll through Greenway Park, sponsored by Ferro Foot & Ankle. The event begins and ends at the H&R Block Building located on Market Street. This is a short and fun 1K (about 3/4 mile) on a paved trail to Doc Werner Dog Park and back. Registration includes a long-sleeve T-shirt and a one-of-a-kind medal! Deadline to register to receive a T-shirt is Friday, Nov. 22, 2024 at noon.

SUNDAY, DEC. 8 from 3-5 p.m. at the Arts & Enrichment Center

Dress up in your favorite holiday pajamas and join us for a gingerbread house building event. Registration is required.

Families with someone with special needs – adults and children – are welcome to an inclusive holiday party featuring dinner and dancing. This event is free.

LIVE REINDEER VISIT + CHARACTERS

MONDAY, DEC. 23 from 6-10 p.m. at Greenway Park

This free event offers visitors to see live reindeer near the massive Christmas tree in Greenway Park. Plus, Santa and The Grinch make one last appearance in Charlestown before the big day. Concessions and food trucks (Mar Concessions and Donut NV) will be on hand. Our friends from Mix 106.9 and Q103.1 will be on hand providing music!

ADOPT-A-LOT PROGRAM

 

The Adopt-A-Lot program at the Family Activities Park is an opportunity for businesses, non-profits, and other community groups to reach an audience of thousands of families and visitors.

Spaces are a 10x10-foot space in the lawn, located along the Charlestown Express Train route and The Depot (new teen hangout area). Decorate as you wish! Electricity is provided. Each lot is a $25 donation to Charlestown Beautification. Spots are limited.

How does the giant tree get to Greenway Park?

Preparations for Christmas in Charlestown begin on October 1 each year. A lot of work and careful coordination goes into bringing the magic to life. Here's a behind the scenes look at how the 55-foot tree in Greenway Park comes together:
