The City of Charlestown hosted a Major League Baseball Players Alumni Legends for Youth Clinic on Monday, April 4 at Charlestown Little League Park.
About 225 participants pre-registered for the event, where six former big leaguers coached kids through a series of station drills, teaching throwing technique, catching and field, hitting, and base running. The former pros also talked about their experiences in the Major Leagues and what it took to get there. They also spoke of life lessons such as getting good grades, listening to coaches/parents, working hard, handling failure, and playing with respect.
Instructing the youth were MLB alumni Steve Stemle, Scott Wiggins, Walt Terrell, Zach McClellan, Willie Lozado and Jon Warden. Volunteering to assist the players were board members and coaches from Charlestown Little League.
In addition to instruction, each clinic attendee received an autographed baseball along with a commemorative ball from event sponsor OmniTrax and River Ridge Railroad.
