MLB Alumni Return to Share Experiences and Teach Fundamentals

Charlestown Little League Park was the site of the second annual Major League Baseball Players Alumni Legends for Youth Clinic, hosted by the City of Charlestown Parks Department on Saturday, April 29, 2023.

Eight former big leaguers put about 125 participants through various drills in different stations across the ball park. The young athletes, ranging from 6- to 16-years-old, learned base running, hitting, proper throwing technique, bunting, and more. At the end of the training session, former pros Franklin Stubbs and Josh Stewart spoke about life experiences in sports. Stubbs pointed out that baseball is fun despite the failures of not always getting a hit.

The debut of a Challenger Ball division took place as well, with Stewart and a host of volunteers helping those with disabilities enjoy the game of baseball.

Former MLB Players in attendance were Geoff Geary, Steve Stemle, Franklin Stubbs, Ricky Stone, Dan Rohrmeier, Josh Stewart, Chris Nichting, and Jermaine Curtis

Each attendee received a commemorative baseball, autographed by the former players. Charlestown Parks presented a mini baseball bat as well. Thank you to sponsor Superior Vault for helping put on the fantastic event!
